Use cases
Free VPN with No Ads and No Sign-Up | 9F VPN
Short answer
9F VPN has a free plan on iPhone and Android. You don't need an account, the app shows no ads, and you get 2 GB of high-speed data a day on servers in Germany and the United States. After that, you stay connected in Slow Mode until the allowance resets.
Step by step
-
Install the app
On iPhone, get 9F VPN from the App Store. On Android, download it from 9fvpn.com/download, because the app is not on Google Play.
-
Finish the first-run screens
Choose your language on "Welcome to 9F VPN" and tap "Get Started". Read "Your Privacy Matters" and tap "I Agree & Continue". There is no sign-up form.
-
Pick a free line
Open the "Servers" tab and choose a line marked "Free Server", or keep "Auto-Select Optimal Server" selected.
-
Connect
Go back to "Home" and tap the connect button. The status changes from "Not Connected" to "Connecting..." and then "Secured".
-
Allow the VPN profile
The first time you connect, iOS or Android asks you to allow a VPN configuration. Allow it, or the app can't connect.
You can use 9F VPN for free. Install the app on iPhone or Android, accept the privacy notice, and connect: no account, no card, and no ads. The free plan gives you 2 GB of high-speed data a day on servers in Germany and the United States. Once that is used up, the connection stays on in Slow Mode until the allowance resets at 00:00 UTC+6:30.
What the free VPN includes
- Locations: 2 free locations, Germany and the United States, with servers in Nuremberg and Los Angeles. In the app they are labeled “Free Server”.
- Data: 2 GB of high-speed data per day. The counter resets at 00:00 UTC+6:30.
- After the allowance: Slow Mode, at about 2 Mbps per connection. That is enough for messaging, email, and web pages, but HD video is likely to buffer.
- No sign-up: the free lines work without creating an account. If you want one later, the sign-in options are Apple, Google, Telegram, and email, depending on your device.
- No ads: the app has no banner ads, video ads, or pop-ups, on the free plan or on VIP.
- No payment: the free plan never asks for a card, and there is no subscription to cancel.
The free plan doesn’t expire after a few days like a trial. It’s a fixed allowance that renews every day.
Free plan, not a free trial
Many VPN apps with a “free trial” ask for a card up front and start billing when the trial ends. 9F VPN works the other way around: the free plan is the default, it has no end date, and it requires no subscription. There is no 30-day trial and no card on file to forget about. If you later want VIP, you choose it yourself; the 30-day pass on the website is a paid one-time purchase, not a trial.
“Totally free” still has limits, and we’d rather say so: the free plan is limited to 2 GB of high-speed data a day and 2 locations.
Choosing your location on the free plan
You don’t have to accept whatever server the app picks. Open “Servers” and tap either line marked “Free Server”: Germany and the United States. Pick the one that suits what you are doing, or leave “Auto-Select Optimal Server” on and let the app choose. Lines for the VIP locations, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, and the United States, appear in the same list but need a VIP plan.
How to get the free VPN app
The app is built for iOS and Android. There is no free online VPN you can run in a browser tab: browsing through 9F VPN happens in the app, which protects all the apps on your phone, including your browser.
- iPhone: download 9F VPN from the App Store. It needs iOS 16.0 or later. It installs on iPad too, but it isn’t a native iPad app, so you get the iPhone layout.
- Android: 9F VPN is not on Google Play. Get the APK from 9fvpn.com/download. Android may ask you to allow installs from your browser the first time.
Be careful with copies of the app on other download sites. Only the App Store listing and 9fvpn.com come from us.
Is a free VPN fast enough?
For everyday browsing, usually yes. Speed on any VPN depends mostly on your own connection and on how far you are from the server. Two things matter on the free plan in particular:
- Distance. The free servers are in Nuremberg and Los Angeles. If you are in Asia, traffic travels a long way, so pages can feel slower to start loading than on a server closer to you. VIP adds other locations (Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Silicon Valley), some of which may be closer to you.
- The daily allowance. The first 2 GB each day run at full speed. After that, Slow Mode applies: fine for chat, but video is likely to buffer.
If the free line feels quick in the morning and slow by evening, check whether you have used up the day’s high-speed data before blaming the network.
Free plan vs VIP
| Free | VIP | |
|---|---|---|
| Ads | None | None |
| Locations | Germany and the United States | Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, and the United States |
| Daily data | 2 GB high-speed, then Slow Mode | No daily data cap |
| Price | Free | App Store: 2.99 USD/month or 19.99 USD/year (US price) |
One VIP plan covers up to 5 devices. App Store subscriptions are auto-renewing, and the price you see depends on your country. On Android you can also buy VIP on the website as a one-time (no auto-renew) payment. You never have to upgrade: the free plan keeps working even if you never pay.
What “free” costs you in privacy
When you compare free VPN services, a fair first question is how each one handles your data. Our privacy policy says: “We do not log the websites you visit, your DNS queries, or the content of your traffic, and we do not store your IP address. We do not sell your data and the Service contains no advertising or tracking SDKs.” You can read the full text at 9fvpn.com/privacy before you connect.
Honest limits of the free plan
- High-speed data is capped each day, and there is no free option without that cap. Heavy video or large downloads will push you into Slow Mode quickly.
- Only Germany and the United States are free. If you need a particular country, it may not be offered at all, even on VIP.
- It’s a mobile app only: iOS and Android. Nothing else is supported.
- A VPN changes the route your traffic takes and encrypts it between your phone and our server. It does not make you anonymous, and it doesn’t change the rules of the websites or the country you are in.
Troubleshooting the free VPN
- Stuck on “Connecting…”: switch to the other free line under “Servers”, or choose “Auto-Select Optimal Server”, then try again. Moving from Wi-Fi to mobile data, or the other way around, can also help.
- Connected but very slow: you have probably used the day’s high-speed data and are in Slow Mode. Wait for the reset at 00:00 UTC+6:30, or keep to light use until then.
- The app won’t connect at all after installing: make sure you accepted the system’s VPN permission prompt. If you declined it, tap connect again and allow it this time. If the prompt doesn’t come back, remove the 9F VPN profile in your phone’s VPN settings and try again.
- Android says the app is blocked: because it isn’t from Google Play, you need to allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps, then open the APK again.
Frequently asked questions
Is 9F VPN really free, or is it a trial that runs out?
The free plan is a daily allowance, not a countdown trial. You get 2 GB of high-speed data each day, and it resets at 00:00 UTC+6:30. VIP is a separate paid plan you can choose later.
Is there a 30-day free trial, and do I need a credit card for it?
There is no 30-day trial to sign up for. The free plan has no end date and never asks for a card. The 30-day option on the website is a paid VIP pass, not a trial.
Can I choose my location on the free plan?
Yes. In the "Servers" tab you can pick either free location yourself, Germany and the United States, instead of letting the app choose. The other locations need VIP.
Do I need an account or a payment card to use the free VPN?
No. The free lines work without signing up and without any payment details. Signing in is optional. If you want an account later, the sign-in options are Apple, Google, Telegram, and email, depending on your device.
Does the free plan have a data cap?
Yes. High-speed data is 2 GB per day. After that you are not cut off: you drop to Slow Mode, about 2 Mbps per connection, until the reset. VIP has no daily data cap.
Are there ads in the free version?
No. 9F VPN shows no ads on the free plan or anywhere else in the app, so you won't get video ads or pop-ups between connections.
Which free VPN server locations can I use?
Free users can connect to 2 locations: Germany and the United States (Nuremberg and Los Angeles). The other locations (Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Bangkok, and Silicon Valley) are VIP only.
Can I use 9F VPN on a website instead of an app?
No. 9F VPN is a mobile app for iOS and Android only, and it does not work in a browser. The website is where you find the download links and read our policies.
What does VIP cost if I want more than the free plan?
In the App Store, VIP is 2.99 USD a month or 19.99 USD a year in the US, auto-renewing, and prices differ by country. On Android you can also pay once on the website with no auto-renewal.
